Default UTComp (hit sounds, bright skins, colored names, enhanced netcode)

This came up as something quite a few people wanted put on the server tonight, and is a whitelisted mutator. Mainly for the hit sounds, I don't see the need for bright skins on most AS maps but whatever.

I'm personally against those lame colored named, but if enough people want them I'd consider it granted nobody does stupid things like all black that you can't read.

I have no experience with the enhanced netcode, so please post some pros and cons.

What else does it do that we might need to argue over?

Well, the hit sound is the only one I care about. I actually kinda like the regular skins better, but no big deal either way.

I'm soooo glad to see the server back up. Hopefully people find it and join up.

I think UTcomp would be cool, at least with hitsounds enabled.
colored names should be disabled imo
and bright skins are better than normal skins, so they should be enabled :o)

I don't see what, we only run AntiTCC and UAM; two things which every other server does too.

Oh, and Enhanced Netcode is another feature of UTComp.

I thought it conflicted with 1 of the 2, I was thinking it was UAM but I don't recall for sure.

Just give it a go.

All bright skins does is allow me to see my targets a little easier.. hehe

Iirc, it favors hitscans over spams. Considering you hate hitscans, ya might wanna think twice before enabling it. Besides, high pingers have to relearn how to aim. In other words, it's a wannabe-competitive feature just like hitsounds and brightskins imo.

And btw, I'm not quite sure it's fully compatible with the new version of AntiTCC...

IMHO- hit sounds good ; bright skins bad . I like the confirmation that I am hitting things, especially when you can have things like invisible geometry blocking your shots. Bright skins seems too much like cheating to me .

The list hasn't been updated in a while, but most of the list's content is either bundled with the game or useful to server adminsitrators, so it ain't crap so to speak...

If I recall correctly, UT2Vote was dewhitelisted a few years ago for having brightskins/hitsounds. Then I think it got rewhitelisted when those features were bundled in an extra mutator/package. Considering UTComp brings brightskins/hitsounds and much more with it, I'd tend to think it's not whitelisted. I guess the best way to find out would be to try.

That said, I'm still against it. Hitsounds especially... you can always (unless you're spamming away) see if you're hitting somebody.

I second Arse's "no" vote; brightskins and hitsounds really don't belong in AS, and ping comp is a crutch.

hey guys..im new here..and im waiting till this server gets popular so we can enjoy it

i love the hit sound and honestly i'll say that it hurts my game cause i never know if i hit the person or not
..i feel its very important and so just wanted to give my input...hopefully the server gets popular and we can get the hit sounds on there

the color skins.. not a big deal to me either way

The server functioned for years, prospered at times, without any version of UTComp. As was said, the ping is a complete and utter crutch. Bright skins is just a pointless visual clusterfuck. And hit sounds is so someone spamming incessantly knows when they hit. Take the time to aim and you'll know when you hit someone

UTComp can't be a whitelisted mutator. UT2Vote had to split off the UTExtras mutator in order to get on the whitelist and UTComp changes things much more than that.
