UT2k4 Technical Question.

Hello, 9 month ago I installed UT 2004 into a new computer with windows 8.1. and it works fine, except
when I try to spec. or play your wonderful server it
says "Your IP Address is banned on this server".
I tried to day to play with my old computer (window 7)
on Omnip)o(tents Onslaught Server and it worked fine.
Perhaps someone would know why? Thanks. Hermit

An initial guess would be you're not using a legit copy of the game. Did you buy the game?

I recommend UT2kx Regcheck. It allows you to view and modify the CD key for your system. (Make sure you run it as administrator.)

Thank you for your reply. I have bought UT 2004 three times
all legit, however I have given the last installed UT 2004 game to a friend. She only plays on SOL DM Freon Server, which I find to hectic to play. Onslaught is much more fun for
me.

Thank you very much for your suggestion.
At first glance it looks a bit too complicated for my
computer knowledge, and I do not dare to change
anything which might not work after. I only have the problem with this server on my windows 8.1 computer.
Thanks for your help, I will work it out somehow.

If your IP address is banned then you need to specify what that IP address is so that one of the admins can look up the ban. Don't do that in this thread, though. Post it in the moderated "Pffft!/Bleeet!/Ooorgle! and Server Bans" area where it can be edited out before the post is approved. And read this first... http://forum.omnipotents.com/announcement.php?f=11&a=10

Do both of these computers have the same public IP address? I'm guessing they are in different locations or you have more than one internet connection?

What do you mean by "the last installed"? Is she using the same version of the game as the one you installed on your Win8 machine?

My apologies for the confusion but I took a few minutes and got this sorted out, Windows 8 isn't the problem. Banned for hacking, ban will not be removed.

Here's a hint: if you're going to try and cheat, please don't do it here. In all of history I can only think of one guy who ever got away with running a copy of the game with a known hack installed.

If you know about it, does that still count as getting away with it?

Thank you very much for your suggestions.
The 2 IP addresses are different, only the Defauld Gateway
addresses are the same. My present Windows 8.1 installation
game is the same I gave to my friend. She plays only FREON
DM on the SOL server. She is hooked on that. She tried to
play VCTF and I think once Onslaught, but she did not really know what to do. Perhaps the game can not be installed on
2 different computers from the same CD. Thanks again.

Sorry, Schadenfreude, but I would not know how to HAX a game and
even if I would know how, why would I want to do that? That would be NO FUN , unwise and unfair.
Happy gaming.

Kinda yeah, he ruffled my feathers and it took some convincing to accept the explanation (which I still do accept)

Good information, I'll send our logs on to SOL shortly. Only two things in this world dont lie: logs and shakiras hips

I don't recall Hermit being a hit-scan master. Is it possible that he didn't know he had a cheat installed?

Also, unless it was a different Hermit, he donated quite a bit to the server, which I wouldn't have expected from someone who likes to cheat... but I'm not a psychologist or anything.

Pi, what did he do and how do you know it was him if he didn't post his IP address or GUID? I hate cheaters and ofc think they deserve a full ban but I get the feeling there may be a misunderstanding here.

I'm not talking about your local IP address, like if you run ipconfig, I'm talking about your public IP address from your Gateway/Modem. If both computers are using the same internet connection and one of them gets a "banned IP address" message but the other does not then that is very weird.

So, here's the deal. Ofc it's not okay to give away software with the key and then still try to use your own version of that software when you know the person you gave the software to is also using it. They have a name for that, it's called Piracy (I'm not judging, I'm just saying). You gave her your CD key, it's not yours anymore. Stop trying to use it.

Now you can, ofc, occasionally change the computer that UT2004 is installed on and maybe you move somewhere and you get a different IP address. This is usually not a problem. My guess is that both of you tried to connect to the Omni server at the same time with the same CD key and it caught it, but I don't know if it does that. Either that or you are a cheater and that's why your IP address is banned.

This Hermit's profile says he just joined and there doesn't seem to be another Hermit except in the Donations area.

nothing to do with the current case (as I mentioned in the other thread, banning hermit was my mistake) but we don't wait for people to activate a running hack. If someone has a framework running we consider that close enough regardless of whether or not they've set autoAim to true in a menu.
