Default Track Turret setup

Ok, let's assume someone ported UT3's track turrets to UT2004 - how would you prefer the tracks to be set up in UEd? Some options would be: Matinee path, Mover or manually placing actors along the track. If you can think of other ways, let me know.

No, I'm not already implementing these, just toying with the idea of doing so.

Manually placing the actors in. Moving turrets would be neat to have.

Keep in mind that maps like Downtown can have round tracks, which would require a lot of actors to set up something that is at least close to round. I guess the actor could be made bDirectional and the arrow could be used to specify how the curve passes through the actor.

Movers are not an option for such a thing, I think.

And Matinee… well I guess most ONS mappers (me included) don't even know how to use that in UT2k4, since it's not working online and thus is irrelevant. Only those who map for AS or have fun creating machinimas probably know what to do with it.

But it's always nice to see that you can't get this game out of your head after all.

I could also rip the track meshes from UT3, but afair they have a way too high poly count for being usable. And unfortunately does Blender's Decimate modifier destroy the UVs, so I can't reduce the count either.

Will you also provide the different types of turrets?

Quote:
Turrets in Unreal Tournament 3 have a default health of 400 and are usually mounted on rails to provide limited movement. All turrets have a zoom function as their secondary fire mode.

Energy Turret
Fires blue energy beams similar to the Onslaught turrets in UT2004.

Damage: 34
Fire rate: 5/s

Rocket Turret
Fires 4 rockets in quick succession, which are similar to those of the Rocket Launcher without target lock, just a lot faster.

Damage: 80 per rocket
Damage radius: 180UU
Fire rate: 1 burst in 1.8s

Shock Turret
Fires shock balls, similar to the Shock Rifle's secondary fire mode, but they travel a little faster than Shock Rifle balls and always blow up combo-style.

Damage: 120
Damage radius: 275UU
Fire rate: 2.2/s

Stinger Turret
Fires stinger shards, similar to the Stinger Minigun's secondary firing mode, but they travel a lot faster.

Damage: 30
Fire rate: 11/s

I'm only talking about track setup, not the turrets themselves. If anything, I'd probably put the 2k4 Energy Turret on a track first.

It doesn't really matter whether Matinee works online, as long as the path data is available, which would have to be used manually anyway. The big advantage would be that you could see your track's exact path, which would not be possible with other ways to implement.

If it seems doable to you, you can of course use that thing too. We could learn how to use Matinee then. After all it probably provides a more fancy GUI to set it up rather than using the Actors.

I know that you mean only the track, but I thought you could add those effects in subclasses of ManualGunPawn while you are at it. I don't expect to see the actual meshes and animations of the UT3 turrets.
