This does suck, I played the map last night and had fun, then the inevitable map crash occurred. I hope you guys can hammer out a fix for whatever is happening with it.

I had a quick look and I don't see anything obviously wrong. Some overlapping added brushes is all. It's a pretty simple map really. Mostly just some add brushes. I picked apart that room with the curved hallway, one brush at a time in wire frame view and it's built in a way that's odd to me but it I don't see why it would cause any problems.

When I played this on the server the other night I had horrible lag. As bad as I have ever had in any match. Others seemed to be having the same problems. I asked about it near the end of the round but only got one response before the crash. I haven't tried the current version offline to see if I get the same lag (it was a weird type of lag).

How about trying the original map on the server? That way we will know if it is something that happened during the editing.

Good idea Bing.

It's on the server and redirect now. May the force be with you...

It's been played at least twice now. One round 27.7 minutes and the other 42.1 minutes.

Looks like Fuzzy was in there for awhile. Did you notice any weirdness?

Then it's something I did to the map.
Sorry guys I'm not the great mapper I thought I was..
Well what's next..? Any Ideas?
It wouldn't bother me a bit if one of you more experienced mappers want to take over.
I just wanted the map on the server.

The Epic stats won't show matches that crashed but I would guess that it hasn't had time to get played more than a couple of times so far.

I don't think there are really any experienced mappers left around here that have the time to work on it.

It's going to be hard to troubleshoot this if it isn't caught by TWC and has to go all the way to the server before it has issues. Just think of it as practice and start over. Make sure you Build often.

The version Carpe put on there seems to be playing fine but it needs work and I think it might be best to pull it now. Like Turbo said about the crashy version, Termy suggested in a match that the map might be getting a bad rep. Mostly it's just weapons lockers. Some nodes don't have them and the ones that are there are pretty weak.

Egg, what's your thoughts? Do you want to start over?

I think you could move the cores, change the link setup, and beef up the weapons lockers and it would be pretty good like that. A good place to work from anyway. I don't think there is a need for the anti-portals unless you notice bad performance. The map is pretty simple and there's not a lot to render. I was getting about 60 to 90 fps with about 20 players I think. That should be about right for me or maybe just a little low.

I started over Friday as you suggested Binger. Fixed a BSP brush that was missing, removed the walls, Switched the cores, added standard vehicles, maxed the weapon lockers and removed the official link setups. I haven't done anything else. I think it's a playable map. Check it out and let me know if any of this is messed up. Could the compression to a zip file be the problem? Thanks.

I think this map has great potential and you have done a great job with it.

Some great vehicles would be:

Tiamat
Railgun tank
Hellhounds
Auroras
Cicadas
Mantas
Scorpions
Aegii (perhaps a Turtle)

I do like the layout and textures. Keep up the great work man.

Ff you're concerned use UZTool to compress it prior to hosting. However, I've never once encountered
a problem where using WinZip or WinRar corrupted a UT2K4 map.

I like the map too. A fellow named ROY made the map and textures, I'm just editing it with his permission for the Omni server. It was crashing the server and removed the first go round. I'm trying a second time from scratch to make it right.

I never had a problem myself with those compressors and I haven't ever heard of a problem with them either.

Could you put the 9test map on the server temperarily? Just to see if anything I've done thus far has caused the problem.

Mr Egg,

Still have to submit it through channels to ensure it doesn't do something else horrible to the server

As long as it passes WMD40's torture chamber, I can put it on to see if the "crash" thing is gone.

Ok, done. I also sent you a copy.
I'm sure it's as server ready as the original.

Allright Mr Loon. It's on the server, named "ONS-UnknownWay-TFC" (as in "Test For Crash"). Please report back
in here as to if it crashes after a round or is good to go.

Egg, if it's ok remember to fix the "inside girder" bug that WMD40 reported.

Ok, I just played it on the server. Completely thru a match without any problems. No crash and was able to vote in the next map. I was the only actual player in the match. Could you keep it on a little longer to get others feedback. I'll fix the bug next.
Thanks Carpe,
Egg

It's been run three times since its been on without any negative feedback. It's not a very playable map as is for 32 combatants. Would you remove it from the server now. Thanks for letting it test whats been done so far.

So whatever became of this map? I really like it and wish it was back on the server.
