Default CEONSS-OMNI Round 5

EDIT: Event day has changed from March 17th to March 10th.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the relatively short notice, but with the 15th anniversary of UT2k4 coming this March, I think it would be appropriate to have our next iteration of the CEONSS-OMNI series occur then! Will "Team CEONSS" continue their undefeated streak, or will "Team OMNI" finally be able to secure victory for the first time? Come join in, and find out as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of this game that keeps on going!

Rules for the time being will be identical to the ones in rounds 3 & 4 (5 maps, 2 points reg/1 point OT, >1 unscored map), with 6 player teams, mixed between the OMNI and CEONSS signup pools to minimize ping advantage. No particular server has been chosen at the moment, although the CEONSS Event Server is still alive, and the OMNI AS server is still very much not alive.

Regardless, dates. UT2004 was released on March 16th in North America, and March 19th in Europe. So given that we've usually scheduled these things on Saturdays, I think that Saturday, March 16th but circumstances this time around mean that Sunday, March 10th would be more ideal, at the usual 3:00 PM EDT (19:00 UTC). That's a bit under 3 weeks from now, so this is relatively short notice compared to previous matches. If that's an exceptionally bad date for people, it could be moved.

Why is there no UTComp? Does it work with ONS? You could fix the ping issue mostly.

It def works with ONS. It was mandatory in twl ons matches.I'd love to see it used. Hit sounds and bright skins are awesome.

Because nobody proposed using it for past matches, honestly. I came back to UT after the development scene had largely petered out, so I'm not properly on top of these things. I can definitely propose it to whoever ends up hosting this event.

On another note, lichReen proposed moving the event back a week to March 9th. I'd prefer keeping the date as it is currently, but what does everyone else think?

I can't make it on the 9th. That's opening weekend for my son's spring baseball season and we play that afternoon. Actually, the 16th doesn't work either, same reason.

If Saturdays are tough for people, would Sundays work better? I'm open to moving the day around, just want to make sure it works for everyone.

Lichy has brought up using the in-game voice chat, which I think peeps also mentioned last time. Would anyone based in North America be willing to test our in-game voice chat with me this weekend? I would like to compare the delay for you guys between Discord and the in-game voice chat. Please message me on Discord.

Alright then. We'll try to hold the match on Sunday, March 10th then. I have updated the top post to reflect this new date.

I'll try to make it. It'd be cool to choose teams and maps ahead of time (if we do this again?) so we can practice/develop strategies etc.

Hi everyone.

I've updated the signups. Looks like we'll have enough players for at least a 3v3 match.

For captaining, Lich and I will be the captains again to expedite map picking, unless anyone else would want to do things. I'll try to hash out maps from my end by tomorrow night. I'll try picking different maps for a 3v3 and 6v6 scenarios.

Nobody has offered up a server this time around or has requested a NA-based server, so we can use the CEONSS event server again. We can use the same mutator set from before. Anonymous suggested that we also use the UTComp mutator for its enhanced netcode that'll make things nicer for us americans. ONSPlus isn't being run on the event server, so there shouldn't be any conflicts.

I'll play if there's enhanced netcode from UTComp.

Thanks! I copied that and pasted it in the CEONSS topic and in the discord channel. (I think I am in UTC+1, but the countdown to 7pm is accurate.)
