Default Ping issues

So, I used to think this server was in Chicago for whatever reason. Now I know it's near or in Dallas, I have tried pinging servers there in Dallas via speedtest and am averaging 42-47, which is much better than my average of 80-90 on this server. Any ideas on what I can check to see why? That's usually the ping I have with 10 or more players, less than that and it can be as low as 67-70. I know someone mentioned white listing my IP before. It's 68.7.189.143 if that can be done.

As xexx noted, the server is in Lansing, MI, and doing a speedtest isn't necessarily going to give you the same ping to the server... depends on Liquid Web's connection and hosting hardware, which I imagine is pretty good being that it's a hosting company. The unknown is exactly what the set up is, only Analog could give us that info.

I regularly get high 30s low 40s ping from near Atlanta. I'm half the distance to the server than you, if I remember correctly you said you're in San Fran? Do a ping test directly to the server's IP, here's what I get:

Hah. So much for Distance.
I'm ~40 miles from Lansing, MI (might be the closest physically to the server)

Yeah, but your end of the connection could slow ping down too. I'm using gigbit fiber optic and getting consistent 41. Yours is bouncing from 33-50, what kind of connection do you have? I used to have comcast 70 Mbps and ping was in the 70-80 range, but would bounce wildly when more people in the house/hood got on the shared pipe.

The server just performs like complete shit (just saying how it is, sorry) so every player sees a massive ping hike.

Ping statistics for 208.79.234.80:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 73ms, Maximum = 74ms, Average = 73ms

Can only pick two servers in Lansing for speed test, but they give the same ping times. I do have the game listed as an exception in Windows firewall, and I read somewhere that the port to allow on your router is 7777, so I did that. The router actually had the game in it's list...lol Oh well, thanks for the feed back. Oh, and I am in San Diego, so a little farther than from SF but much warmer and drier :-)

Interesting.. what command parameters did you get to show all of these results - when I type in tracert and then the ip address, it only shows 2 lines, none of the detailed specifics like yours?

Rock solid at 67ms day or night, DSL here. I used to run Comcast side-by-side for comparison. Comcast was all over the place, so bad I couldn't stream properly so I dropped them like a hot rock.

Same here with comcast experience, when we had it every afternoon about 7pm when everyone was home from work in the hood, it would slow to a crawl so bad I couldn't even get connected to the server sometimes. So glad when the fiber optic came thru with a killer deal.

That's it??? That's why I asked the question in my previous post.. perhaps I'm connected right to the internet backbone near DC (I live exactly 20 miles from the White House but it takes me at least 45 minutes to get there on a good day.. shall I say hello to Trump for you?).

Had a case of high ping today. Hitting high 300s and 400s for no apparent reason. Switched to command prompt to screenshot these side by side.

Xexx, so the ~350 ping in game, and ~50 out of game at the same time?

Ping listens/responds on a different port, different linux program/process than UT. If so, with those ping times times are different, then the lag is all on the UT process side not on the server/server network interface or internet side, but rather the UT program is slow to respond...at least that's my thought on it. Which might explain why many of us see ping variations in game that we don't see otherwise.
