Default Dria-S

I realize it's a little late for this since Turbo's current edit might be the last for Dria but I decided to do it anyway. I duplicated the south part of the map and replaced the north part with it. I could have done the north or even the east or west but I decided to try the south part first. I went back to the original but I might do the TMU one also.

This is a basically just a flipped version of the original but I did do a few things. I deleted a lot of the trees and raised the branches up off of the ground. I really don't like these trees because the bots can see through them. They don't seem to effect their sight at all. Raising the branches up helps a little, imo. I also beefed up a weapon locker then just copied it to replace all the others so right now all lockers are the same. I deleted the stock scorpions because they are just too slow for this. It needs a few more vehicles. Deleted all the work lights scattered around the map. Deleted all ammo pickups and move the armor pickups.

There are seams where I lined up the two terrains but I think they are acceptable. I might work on that some more.

I did this pretty quickly (for me) over the last few days so I probably forgot something.

That's about it. I'm not going to try to get it on the server as is. It might be all for nothing but I did it anyway.

Hey now, your work is ALWAYS appreciated. Without you and the other mappers we wouldn't still be playing this great game.

Thank you, dimshade.

One more thing I forgot to mention is that I removed the image from the minimap. That will need to be redone.

I think Turbo's new edit is meant to replace the Gorz-Stones version so how about a symmetrical version of Dria-TMU with a different node setup to replace the one we play over and over and over and ...

That's kind of what I was thinking. The Gorz/Stones/TMU versions of Dria have a ton of changes from the original, so using the fixed original version as a base would be more work than it's worth. If you were to do a symmetrical version of Dria-TMU, that would make a big difference, since the slowness of the tanks makes the asymmetry very apparent.

For some reason I was thinking that the Gorz versions were based off of the original. I like the texture on the terrain in the TMU version more so I'll have another try with making a sym version out of that.

Hmm, I got this done with TMU and tbh it just doesn't seem right somehow. I might try the north side instead but I'm not sure this is going to work out. It just feels wrong. I'll upload it anyway to see if anyone has any comments. Just need to touch up the texture on the terrain and it should be ready.

I think changing the theme to "tropical" would be really cool, and making the lake have water like the old Panalesh would be nice as well.

Water that doesn't hurt vehicles, or at least have most of it be shallow with certain deep spots

I'd like to download it, but it's a Gamefront link, and it deletes files after 60 days of inactivity.

I was referencing the whole thread, which was about a Dria edit I did where the central lake was filled with water and some of the tanks were converted to hovercraft. I can re-upload it if you want.

Thanks. I like the concept, but it's a little too close to the Dria we have now in terms of terrain textures. I would like it a lot if had sand/grass and palm trees. Something like RapaNui, Araja, or IslandHop.

I agree. It would be cool if the map was completely gutted and redone. Perhaps the non-TMU version since that one is not as popular.

I always preferred Dria with the King Hellhound and Raptor at the core. ONS-Dria-)o(-V7 I think, but that version didn't have badgers at the core yet, which were a good touch. I believe there was even one with the Fire Hound at the core, but I honestly can't remember that far back as to which version it was.
It would be best if this server had a serveractor that would allow multiple versions of one map to be grayed out if one was recently played, like on LDG. That way everyone can be pleased, and variety can be increased.

Except... it's the TMU one that has the problem. If you want to keep the TMU as it is (kinda)... you can see about slightly adjusting vehicle spawn time or node built time or vehicle load out... to balance the map. The map is close to balanced but not quite, hence the almost always red wins of 3:2. It all has to do with distances and travel time and vehicle cover (aka Dim's cabin by the riverbed ).

I can't put my finger on it, but Dria is the one map that makes me leave, no matter what version. I know a lot of people like it, so I just leave to make room for someone else. Some of it is the textures. Dark, dank, no color, blahhh. I know it goes with the theme but, what's wrong with a ruined castle in a green field? I like the idea of shallow water and brighter textures.

Don't know if it's possible, but could the fog density be changed in different areas of the map. Make a early morning spring time map that is more clear on the land hilltops but increasing the fog as you enter the valley where the water is. That would shroud the two middle nodes and add a little more close combat.

I don't mind asymmetrical maps as long as they're balanced but, prefer the more symmetrical maps personally, that's why MagicIsle is one my favorites.

just my $.02
