Hello everyone,

Magic Isle passed TWC tonight. Thank you WMD for testing!

Available for download if desired, there are two zips, please be sure to get them both!

Special thanks for all who tested this in advance, and helped with the tweaks and suggestions early on. And of course thank you to WMD40 on TWC, Carpe for loading this and of course the Omni crew for running the server.

Teleporter gone.
Black Angus gone.
Grapple Gun added to lockers throughout
Buildings added to edges of 7/9. Teleporters to inside 7/9 to get to the middle easier
Vehicle Healing Volumes added inside 7/9. They are slow to go. Still has link packs. Charger in Omni sign on floor and in chimney area. Floor: 15 Health every 6 seconds. Chimney: 10 Health every 6 seconds
Fog added to valleys outside 4/6 to hide entrances to the buildings at 7/9 that were added
Relics added to new buildings, as follows: Guns, Haste, Ammo, Agility
Shield Pack and Health Charger Thing in new buildings
EONS EMP Grenades now hidden on the map in two spots on both sides. The grenade when deployed kicks and locks people out of a vehicle. It stays locked for about 15 seconds. It can be reoccupied after by either team, or destroyed while locked.
Geometry at 3/10 now does not allow a full tank to hide under the building side of the node
3/10 now has 2 less teleporters, making it harder to hide-and-go-seek at the nodes
3/10 Health and Shield Packs moved to near node
3/10 Now have a teleport pad near the spawn
5/8 have an additional teleporter to the top of the tower to reach a vehicle
5/8 Terrain now does not slow down tanks going through center from core side.

Can we at least have V8-Solace on the server? This map is very different from what used to be on for years.

Though it may be best to start a seperate thread for this topic, V8-Solace differs in the following way from V13 (the version on the server now)
1) Weapons Loadout
2) Vehicle Loadout

The node layout is the same as the version on the server now (and the last several versions.)

Core: Phoenix, Falcon, Dragon, Mino, Fire Tank, Bio Tank, Kraken, Badger, Hell Hound
1/2: Cicada, Fire Tank, King Hell Hound
3/10: Aegis, Hell Hound, Phoenix x2
4/6: Arbalest, Falcon, Badger
5/8: Mino, Cobra, Hell Hound
7/9: Ion, Bio, Wasp

Weapons:
- No Battery
- No Trans (which is gone in 2017 version)
- No Angus (which is gone in 2017 version)

There are other minor changes (such as the vehicle healer, back in the 2017 version) that I don't want to spend time sorting out, really.

Yes, I understand, I want V8-Solace from back then. A vehicle healer is simply a physics volume that does negative damage.

That version had the OVP Wasp and OVP Aurora. Glad they are gone.

Yeah, the classic MagicIsle charm is gone, along with the different types of strategies we used.

Ironically played this on Ceonns today, you are right, the charm is gone. If by charm you mean knoted up until OT node/vehicle layout. The problem with solace is you have a tank map that is jacked up by OPV fliers. It should be renamed ONS-SlatedIsle, since basically this is just a flier map with a pile of slow moving targets. The whole round we deadlocked at 10/3 and 7/9 ending in more or less a stalemate. In fact, the reason I originally edited the map was to avoid the boredom of that circumstance.

As mentioned below, there are many changes I made to the map in hopes to make this fun for everyone again, vs. fun for the people who can use the translocator.

Feel free to regress the version to what you like though, but honestly I would prefer if we let the people on the server decide if they want to play it or not. Having two versions may be good as well, in case you want the slower paced version vs. the so far unknown version. Though the current version is not played as much as V12 was, it still played daily. Obviously I made mistakes in my edit, ones I hoped to correct in this version.

Have you considered waiting until the map is actually on the server and playing it with the population? Speaking of maps that have lost 'charm' the same can be said with Gunshop and that gloryhole that was added. And the removing teleporters, redeemers, etc.

I'm sure Lagzilla's version will be lots of fun, it's that the game meta has changed. Just like strategies on Arctic Junkyard are very different from Desert Junkyard. Having V8 or V9 of Magic Isle on the server as well as the new version with all the new vehicles would allow both types of the same map to be voted in depending on what kind of match the players are in the mood for.

This reminds me of Termi's comment in another thread about the different modified mantas. New terrain and different vehicles on ANY map make for a new and varied experience, requiring new team strategies and modifying your game play. People that change up their playing style tend to be the ones that like all these new map variations. Those that play the same way EVERY map are typically the ones that bitch. Most people don't like change... try to keep an open mind about a little variety.
